We bring our own micro mini umbrella to throw in our beach bag incase it rains, suntan lotion, sunglasses, hats etc - These items add up if you don't have them with you.
I have a bag with a lock that we carry as our beach bag - we can lock it to a chair and feel pretty good that our stuff won't get stolen. One time we were on seven mile beach in grand cayman and the 2 ladies that were next to us had gone into the water to cool off and on their return found that their bags were missing. I know they would have loved something like this.
