Great Souvenier Ideas and Photo OPs

It's hard to imagine what we all did before the digital camera.  Thank god the days of waiting until you get home for your photos to be developed are long gone. No more waiting to find out you got a bunch of crappy, out of focus pictures and wishing you had just takin one more to get a perfect shot . Plus now you don't have to pay a fortune to get them developed.

Picture Opportunities

  • We try and get a picture with the life perserver of every ship we've been on.  It's just become a fun tradition - its great because they all have the name of the ship on them.

  • When you visit different ports and countries have one of their local meals and/or beers and take a picture of it.  Its a great way to remember the different flavors or tastes of the places you've been.

  • We have a water proof digital camera that I paid about 200.00 for a couple years ago that I love.  I don't have to worry about taking it to the beach or pool. There's always great picture ops by the water.  Its neat to snorkel with too. But if you don't want to invest in one Disposable water cameras are great too but buy them at home you'll save big time!

  •  We will take pictures of us in different hats sombreos etc instead of buying them.  Lets face it  - you'll probably only wear something like  that on your vacation and then you'll put it out at your next yardsale for 50 cents.  Why waste your money. You can still get close to the same effect with the picture.

  • Most places you dock have a sign with the name of the port - Get your family lined up next to it and make your own post card.  Most of the other passengers would be more than happy to take the picture for you. Most likely you could return the favor for them.

  • You'll find thousands of photo opportunities on a cruise.  Make sure you bring plenty of batteries so you don't miss out.

Cruiseline Professional Photos!

Every time you turn around on a cruise they are trying to take your picture.  They will take them when you get there, when you leave to goto port, when your eating dinner, you name it they have the cameras flashing.  They will put them all in the photo galleries so you have the option to buy - though you are not obligated in anyway to purchase.

Photos taken by the cruiseline are expensive. Although the truth be told this is one of the things I might splurge on so we try and limited the ones we pose for and the candid shots are much cheaper than the formal portraits.  If you want a professional photo you could have all different ones done to choice from.  Just set a budget for it!

Souvenier Ideas cheap --- or FREE!

  • Scrapbooks are awesome souveniers.  You can do it inexpensively too.  Always get the stuff they give you for free. Things like luggage tags maps, brochures, and napkins can be cut and used for scrapbooking.  I always collect the daily to do papers from every ship.  I'll cut different logos and pictures from brochures and use luggage tags to decorate the pages.

  • I've also done scrapbooks on-line and then they send you a complete hardbound memory book with all your photos.  Its an alternative that is quick and easy.  They have different layouts for you to choose from and you can make multiple books with little effort.

  • We also collect christmas ornaments for our tree.  Some times we buy them at a port or sometimes we make them ourselves.  Every time we decorate the tree its really neat to remember all the places we've been.

  • Make your own souveniers with things you may get at port.  In the past I've collected sand from different beaches and put it in clear glass christmas balls and written the name and year on the outside. I exspecially love the pink sand we got in Bermuda.  You can use shells for just about anything like decorating a picture frame.

  • My Parents have been on many many cruises and have been collecting seaglass for years. I don't know of anyone that is as good at finding it as them but I've found a few pieces over the years.  My mom makes beautiful jewlery from it and sells it all over the world from her website. Check it out. www.spiritoftheseaglassjewelry.com
